County property is currently being revaluated, per a requirement of the North Carolina Department of Revenue, according to Tax Administrator Mary Walker of the Alleghany County Tax Office.
The revaluation, which takes place in the county every eight years, is a means for tax officials to update the value of all real property, which includes land, houses and other structures. Pearson Appraisal Services of Richmond, Va. has been contracted to assist the county in the task.
Walker explained, “They (data collectors) will go out to your house and

at your house. They check for outbuildings and they check to make sure
the house is drawn correctly.
