Group plans to distribute youth grants

Alleghany’s Promise is accepting applications from nonprofit or governmental agencies for grants of up to $1,000 to help provide youth services in Alleghany County.

Proposals must target services to youth, from birth to age 22, and provide for one or more of the Five Basic Promises as outlined by the America’s Promise organization (www.americaspromise.org). The Five Basic Promises include relationships with caring adults; safe places and structured activities; a healthy start; marketable skills through effective education; and, opportunities to serve.

Proposals need to be received by Patti Cox at Piney Creek School by 3 p.m. Dec. 15. Award announcements will be made by Jan. 31, 2006. For more information, contact Cox at 657-3388 or 359-2988.
