Department seeks leads on church break-ins

The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Department is seeking leads on several cases of breaking and entering at local churches.

Churches that have been broken into include New Covenant on Sept. 28, Laurel Springs Baptist Church on Oct. 14 and Shiloh Church on Oct. 17. Attempted breaking and enterings was also reported at Pine Fork Church Oct. 17 and an earlier event at Little Pine Church of the Brethren. A report for the Little Pine attempt was not available.

According to information from reports on file at the department, the thieves only took a small amount of change from the churches. “They appeared to be looking for money,” said Capt. Carlton Edwards. “No other items were taken from the churches.”
