Ralph Castillo was named the new chief executive officer of Alleghany Memorial Hospital effective Oct. 25.

In a brief interview Tuesday, Castillo said the hospital plans to also hire a new chief financial officer. That search began the day Castillo took over as CEO. Castillo was hired in 2000 as chief financial officer of the hospital and has been serving dual roles since the exodus of Kevin Harlan earlier this year. Castillo was appointed interim CEO of AMH upon Harlan’s departure.

The hospital board searched for a new CEO nationwide before settling on three possible candidates, one of whom was Castillo.

“I realize the importance of the hospital and the importance of the hospital to the community from a quality of life and an economic standpoint,” Castillo said. “It is important that we are here for the community. We are always looking for ways to improve healthcare.

“The current regulatory and reimbursement environment make it hard for a small hospital to survive. We need everyone’s support."
