Chamber plans trick-or-treat event downtown; others activities planned

With local ‘spooks’ and ‘haints’ leaving home Friday evening to visit local homes and businesses, there will be no shortage of scares. However, parents can take their children to one of several ‘safe’ kids events in Sparta, a move that will help take the worry out of the gathering of treats.

Sparta’s annual No Tricks, Just Treats activity will be held 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31, which is Halloween evening.

In addition to the collecting of Halloween treats, there are also special activity venues planned. The Family Resource Center will be having their Halloween Extravaganza, featuring games and activities, a haunted trail and food for kids and parents between 5 and 8 p.m. The center is located at 61 Wee Care Avenue, just off Main Street behind Country Homestead. The Alleghany Inn is offering a haunted house from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 From the main parking lot, the entrance is on the north wing.

In addition, the annual Hallelujah Night event will be held at the skating rink at Trojan Village Shopping Center on Oct. 29 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Each event is detailed separately below.

No Tricks, Just Treats

This is third year that local businesses and organizations have opened their doors for costumed youngsters to collect sweets and it has been an extremely popular event, said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bob Bamberg.

“Last year I think everyone was impressed by the number of youngsters on the street,” George White, Sparta Revitalization Committee president, said. “We really appreciate businesses providing our children a safe place to experience this Halloween tradition. Parents, don’t forget to thank merchants for this extra effort.” No Tricks, Just Treats is a joint effort between the Sparta Revitalization Committee and the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce. Participating merchants will be prominently posting an orange flyer at their business. Parents are asked to accompany their children during the event.
