Bradley Benge has a big smile, laughs a lot, loves to go to school, and is a big fireman fan.

He cannot walk a step and has cerebral palsy, which has made him a quadriplegic since his premature birth 11 years ago.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Benge of Harold Mountain Road extension in northern Wilkes County, Bradley has recently gotten help from Alleghany Rotary Club and North Wilkesboro Rotary Club and a host of volunteers. A special room has been built for him at his home and a large bathroom with roll-in shower has been constructed.

His mother, Monica, is overjoyed with the new addition for her son. “It’s so much easier for him to receive his therapy, which he gets five days a week, and so much easier for me to give him his baths.

Monday night at the Benge home, there was a celebration commemorating the new addition for Bradley. Rotary Club members and guests attended, as did many volunteers who helped with the project either by donating labor or materials.

“Bradley is so excited about everyone coming here to see him and his new rooms. He loves people and going to school. When he’s sick and can’t go to school, he cries,” his mother said.
