The Alleghany County Public Library is coming to a crucial point in its campaign for the library annex, a proposed expansion to the existing facility.
The library agreed to buy the neighboring property, known as the Richardson-Young property for $190,000 in late 2004. In that deal, the library’s representatives agreed to pay $63,333.33 down and then make two annual payments of $63,333.33.
The Alleghany County Commission agreed last year to pay half of the
first payment, but the library raised the other half through donations.
With funds for the next payment needed by Nov. 1, Brewer said the
library is entering its final push. As of Tuesday, the library had
raised $45,025.12 — leaving it more than $18,000 shy of its goal.
