An investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has uncovered no criminal wrongdoing in the death of Robert Allen Bramblett, said a letter by 23rd Prosecutorial District District Attorney Tom Horner.
The Blue Ridge National Heritage Area recently received a $2.2 million allocation from the government, according to Penn Dameron, who serves as the organization’s executive director. Alleghany is among 25 counties included in the plan.

The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Department, acting on a tip, cut down and destroyed 556 marijuana plants on private property in the southeastern end of the county.
Since Kevin Harlan resigned as chief executive officer of Alleghany Memorial Hospital, the board has been actively seeking a replacement. Harlan’s last day of work was Aug. 26.

Darlene Douglas, who recently was hired as executive director for Alleghany Group Homes, noted her approach to the business is slightly different than that of her predecessor, Harrol Blevins.
The chapel at Alleghany Memorial Hospital was recently renovated, due, in part, to Lillie Evans Atwood, an Alleghany woman who was more than a big sister to Sparta resident Oscar “Doc” Evans.
