Curtis Coe, the 20-year-old son of Melvin Coe and Kathy Minton, recently visited New York City after being featured in Details magazine and on television in Japan.
In Japan, Coe was featured in commercials for Honda. The stepson of Donny Minton and Sharon Coe noted he had also done “various shoots for Macy’s.”
Although Coe began his modeling career at the first of the year, making his debut in the May issue of Details magazine, he had been approached with the idea five years prior.
“On career day my sophomore year, a gentleman from Mount Airy was there and he owned an agency,” Coe recalled. “I spoke with him and he told me I had potential to do well. However, I was only 15 and my mother wanted me to focus on my education. When I spoke to the man again, he said he had gotten out of the business.”
Despite the hurdle, Coe was able to retain an agent, Sparta business owner Nadia Shahrik, who also works with Men’s Board, a modeling agency in Miami, Fla.
“I heard through my stepmother that Nadia was in the business, and she asked if I wanted her to take some pictures by for Nadia to see,” Coe said. “Afterwards, Nadia said she would like to meet me, and it all kinda just happened from there.”
Country Boy, Will Travel
Coe, a self-proclaimed “country boy” noted that prior to becoming a model, he was not a seasoned traveler.
“Prior to becoming a model, I had never really been anywhere,
especially on my own,” he said. “When I started modeling, I moved to
New York City for just over a month by myself. Then, I went to Miami
for four months. Hopefully later this year, I will get to go to Paris.
Possibly next year, I will get to go to Milan.”
