The 18th annual Alleghany County Agricultural Fair is under way at the Justice Carlisle Higgins Agricultural Fairgrounds and musical performances, children’s activities, livestock shows and a lawnmower race remain on the slate for the remainder of the week.

The event will feature midway rides, which will open for the first time on Thursday at 6 p.m. The rides will close that night at 10 p.m. Meanwhile, on Friday, rides will be open from 6 p.m. until midnight and then from 4 p.m. until midnight on Saturday night.

Amusement rides are being provided by Brinkley Entertainment Inc. In lieu of tickets, arm bands are being sold this year at a cost of $12 each for unlimited rides on Thursday and Friday, while Saturday the arm bands will cost $15.

“If visitors have to stand in line at all, it will be to get the armbands, not to wait in line for the rides,” County Extension Director and Fair Chairman George Stancil said.
