The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Sept. 13 at 6:45 p.m. to discuss adopting a second moratorium on polluting industries. Anyone may attend the meeting, which will be held at the county office building at 90 South Main Street in Sparta.
Four Charlotte men who were wanted in connection to a larceny at a local convenience store were arrested Monday in Hillsville, Va. attempting to do a similar act there, according to information from the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Department.

Sparta Town Manager Bryan Edwards noted the results of a pedestrian survey completed by more than 300 local residents revealed a “general perception that we need more and better sidewalks.”
The 18th annual Alleghany County Agricultural Fair is under way at the Justice Carlisle Higgins Agricultural Fairgrounds and musical performances, children’s activities, livestock shows and a lawnmower race remain on the slate for the remainder of the week.
