Doughton Day proves well attended

About 150 people gathered at Doughton Hall July 30 to honor the late Senator Robert “Farmer Bob” Doughton. The Laurel Springs site, now a bed and breakfast, was once the home of the Alleghany native politician.

During the second annual gathering, those in attendance enjoyed barbecue as several politicians were on hand to speak. The event was emceed by Delmas Parker, a representative of the N.C. Democratic Party. One of the events’ coordinators, Lizabeth Roupe, commented, “The event went so well last year, everyone agreed we wanted to carry it on every year.
