Neighbors of a lawnmower race track in Glade Valley filed court documents Monday seeking to close the track and pay them reparations for their “loss of use and enjoyment of their property.”
Two more town residents have filed as candidates for the Nov. 8 Town of Sparta election at the Alleghany Board of Elections.
Two events are planned at the Alleghany Fairgrounds this weekend — the annual New River Shrine Club Car Show and the Quilter’s Guild’s quilt show.

The 11th annual Alleghany County Fiddlers Convention, held July 15 and 16 at the Alleghany Fairgrounds in Sparta, was wetter than usual, but spirits did not appear to be dampened.

The North Carolina Symphony will perform its summer pops concert July 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sparta Elementary School auditorium.
