Neighbors file lawsuit against lawnmower track owner

Neighbors of a lawnmower race track in Glade Valley filed court documents Monday seeking to close the track and pay them reparations for their “loss of use and enjoyment of their property.”

Dewey Brooks’ bond is set at $250,000

Duane Edgar “Dewey” Brooks waived his probable cause hearing and had a $250,000 secured bond set by Judge Edgar B. Gregory during Alleghany County District Court on July 12.

Fiddlers out in force despite rain

The 11th annual Alleghany County Fiddlers Convention, held July 15 and 16 at the Alleghany Fairgrounds in Sparta, was wetter than usual, but spirits did not appear to be dampened.

The North Carolina Symphony will perform its summer pops concert July 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sparta Elementary School auditorium.
