The Alleghany Board of Education held a joint meeting with the Alleghany County Commission at the Cyber Campus June 7, where the board of education attempted to justify its $1,975,050 budget request. The request represents an increase of $303,967 over last year’s $1,671,083 county allocation.
However, the night before on June 6, the commission received its budget proposal from County Manager Don Adams. The manager’s proposal included an increase of about 13 percent, or $216,880, over last year’s allocation. If approved, that increase would give the schools $1,887,963 in county funds.
In a video presentation, members of the county school system pled their case to the members of the commission for the money they requested be allocated for their specific needs.
The first significant request by the board, noted by Superintendent
Duane Davis, was $28,000 plus benefits for an additional science
teacher at Alleghany High School.
