The Sparta Post Office welcomed its newest addition last week, full-time Postmaster Christy Baldwin. Baldwin replaces Kim Reeves, who had been serving as officer in charge at the office since the beginning of the year.
Learning about the job in Sparta on the Internet, she applied for it and began the interview process, which consisted of a total of three interviews.
The Lenoir native applied for five offices and was offered the job as postmaster in Sparta. So far, Baldwin notes she is pleased with the decision.
“I love it here,” she said. “Wonderful office, wonderful people work here. I’m very pleased with the employees that are here.” Baldwin’s postal experience dates back 13 years, when she began working as a clerk in Taylorsville. She later became supervisor there. “
I was the postmaster in Todd,” Baldwin said. After leaving the Ashe County position, she became the postmaster in Banner Elk. “This is a much friendlier town,” she said, adding that “I have no immediate plans of leaving.”
In fact, Baldwin plans to get involved in the community. “I plan to be active with the schools,” she said, adding, “Everywhere I’ve been at Christmastime, we’ve done a special project. When I was in West Jefferson, we did a coat drive for the needy. I sponsored families. I always like to be involved in the community. I want people to know who I am so they can talk to me if they have a complaint.”
Baldwin stated that customer service is very important to her and she
plans to express that through her work at the post office.
“I want Sparta to be known for its wonderful customer service,” she
said.
