Interest is high for schools’ top post

Tomorrow, June 3, at 5 p.m. marks the deadline for applications to be received for the position of superintendent of Alleghany County Schools.

The applications are being accepted by Frederick J. Johnson, the attorney for the school board, at his office in Mount Airy.

Johnson said that 55 requests for applications had been made as of 2 p.m. last Thursday. Of the requests, Johnson noted that 29 are from North Carolina. Of these, he stated he “can’t comment” on how many of these are from within the Alleghany County system, adding that the matter was “confidential.”

The remaining 34 requests come from 16 other states, one of them being Alaska.

“Any candidate from out-of-state would have to be able to hold a North Carolina license.
