George Bowland not only won his second Alleghany Chevrolet Blue Ridge Sports Car Hillclimb in a row last Saturday and Sunday, he set a new course record for the second consecutive year as well.
In 2003, the first year the Blue Ridge Hillclimb, sanctioned by the
Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), came to Alleghany County and its
Doughton Mountain Rd. course, rain and wet road conditions slowed the
drivers. Bowland lit up the course in 2004, however, easily
outdistancing the competition en route to “King of the Hill” honors and
the track record (51.634).
