After four years with Alleghany County Schools, Kim Elliott recently submitted her resignation. The director of curriculum and instruction for kindergarten through 12th grade recently accepted a position at Western Carolina University as the director of the office of rural education.
Although she will be working in Cullowhee, she stated that she will still work with the county schools. “I will continue to serve Alleghany in a different role,” she explained. “Alleghany is one of the 49 local education agencies my office will support in the areas of grants, college access activities, Odyssey of the Mind state competition and the seventh and eighth grade and sophomore and junior’s North Carolina Legislators’ School.”
Elliott is the wife of Brad Norton, mother of Brynn Hawkins and the stepmother of 20-year-old Josh and 18-year-old Jessica Norton. According to Elliott, Hawkins is an insurance agent with Barr Insurance in Jefferson, while her stepchildren reside in Indiana.
“My family has always supported my education goals and career,” Elliott said. “My parents, Lee and Linda Elliott, and my grandmother, Donna Reeves, have been an inspiration to my furthering my own education.” Elliott will further her education by writing a dissertation in rural education focusing in professional development in the fall.
Kim Elliott is leaving her job at Alleghany County Schools on May 6.
