Contractors working to rebuild a transmission line for Blue Ridge
Electric Membership Corporation accidentally caused a blackout across
much of Alleghany County and part of Ashe County last Friday, March 11.
The outage affected a total of 9,632 members of the cooperative, said
Renee Whitener, director of corporate communications for Blue Ridge
Electric. In all, 7,137 Alleghany residents were affected.
