Library sets Black History celebration

A theatrical production will be held in honor of Black History Month will be held tonight at Sparta United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. “One Man Journey” will feature playwright and actor Mike Wiley.

“It’s a one-man show,” offered Debbie Brewer. She, Genia George and Leslie Choate are the organizers of the event. “Mike Wiley wrote this play and is performing all 20 characters. He also uses audience participation.”

The cost of Wiley’s visit is being covered by the Arts Council, according to Brewer. The event is free to the public. She added this is the fifteenth consecutive year in which the local library has honored Black History Month.

“This is a joint effort of the Arts Council, Friends of the Library, the library and local individuals,” Brewer said.
