The issue of having an exclusive franchise for a local construction debris disposal company drew a crowd to a public hearing on Monday night during the Alleghany County Commission meeting.
The exclusive franchise had been requested by Darren Cranford of M&J Disposal, with the intent of protecting his business from competition. Cranford said he had made a significant investment in waste containers and equipment and was trying to get the franchise agreement with the county to protect his interest.
Just prior to the hearing on the request by Cranford, a request by
Alleghany Garbage Service for an identical franchise agreement was
passed unanimously by the board.
