A total of 188 Alleghany County children received Christmas gifts from Cora’s Charities Angel Tree ministry last Saturday, Dec. 11m at the Emerson Black Exhibition Building in Sparta.
“It went beautifully,” said Cora Neville. “We had 147 children registered on time and also 41 late registrations who also received gifts.”
While the event was mainly to ensure that every child on the angel tree received a Christmas gift, many other gifts and items also were distributed.
Neville said a church from Taylorsville also came to the county to distribute oranges, potatoes and pinto beans to each family.
The food raised during the food drive held in concert with WCOK 1060 AM was also distributed. “We tried to divide up all the food equally between the families that were there,” Neville said. Ross Wagoner and the Alleghany Baptist Association also presented a treat bag to each child and a version of the New Testament.
Franklin Graham donated items not appropriate to send overseas and gift
bags were made of them also.
