Building may be sold, chamber says

Chamber building appraised

During closed session, the council was presented with an appraisal of the former Sparta Town Hall, which is currently being used to house the Alleghany County Chamber of Commerce.

Town Manager Bryan Edwards noted afterward that the town and chamber members “will need to sit down and discuss the long-range suitability of its current location as a visitor’s center.

“I don’t know where the discussion might lead,” Edwards stated. The chamber appraisal was included in a early draft of the agenda for Town Council, but was later removed and put into closed session actions.

The aging building needs repairs and has had roof leaks in the past.
