Tree season could bring as many as 10,000 visitors here

As a slight chill filled the air Saturday, families and friends made their way from around the state to select the perfect Christmas tree during Alleghany County’s annual Choose and Cut Day festivities, which were held on Dec. 4.

Curator for teapots is selected

Commission to seek local board attorney

After a brief discussion Monday, the Alleghany County Board of Commissioners agreed to seek a local attorney to represent the board. Ed Woltz of Mount Airy is currently representing the board, at a cost of $125 per hour.

Wilkes Community College and Alleghany County celebrate a double anniversary this year. Wilkes Community College marks 40 years since its inception and Alleghany marks 30 years since the college began a permanent presence in this county.

A Golf Course Road home was destroyed by fire on Dec. 1, after a blaze broke out in the area of the home’s chimney.
