Yule Lights (87K) SPRUCING UP — Donnie Spencer of Sparta assists Oscar Reeves as Reeves hangs the holiday decorations up on Main Street in Sparta Nov. 18. The town’s holiday decorations are typically put in place just prior to the annual Christmas Parade, which is scheduled for this Saturday.

Annual Yule parade set Saturday

The annual Sparta Christmas parade is scheduled for Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. The theme for the event is “The Spirit of Christmas.”

Businesses, churches, community groups and organizations are encouraged by the Sparta Revitalization Committee, which is organizing the event, to submit a hand-made entry. The “Best of Parade” entry will win a $25 prize. In addition to the homemade floats, many other yearly standards, such as the local Veterans of Foreign Wars, antique cars, lawnmowers, fire trucks and police cars will be included.

The Rev. Don Richardson, now retired, was chosen as the parade marshall.
