An Alleghany County woman lost her life in a fiery collision with a tractor-trailer Monday night on U.S. 21 about nine miles north of Elkin, according to Trooper J.R. Hall of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
The victim was later identified by Hall as Susan Mimbs Billings, 40, of Homestead Way, Glade Valley, driver of a 1997 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle. Her body was taken to Wilkes Regional Medical Center by Wilkes EMS.
Her mother, Sarah McCarthy, 66, of Glade Valley, a passenger in the
vehicle, also sustained injuries in the wreck.
