New River Arts and Crafts now has $2,500 in sales

Hitting the information superhighway in September, New River Arts and Crafts, located at www.newrivercrafts.com, has already made more than $2,500 in sales.

“New River Arts and Crafts is a unique online community that changes with the seasons to reflect the handmade creative talents of artisans and growers of the North Carolina mountains,” explained Joan Johnson, graphic artist and marketing director of New River Arts and Crafts.

“Our purpose is to support, preserve and celebrate the authentic mountain culture, art and heritage of the New River Valley area.”

On the website, consumers can find items from jams, jellies and preserves from Watson Fruit Farm to various apple trees from Big Horse Creek Farm. Those interested in herbal items can also find them, courtesy of Creeksong Farm. The website also includes a variety of home decor items from baskets and pillows to rugs and benches. In the website’s music category, the consumer can browse the selection of fiddles, courtesy of Hash-Ham Fiddles .On the textile art link, consumers can choose among a selection including quilts, rugs throws. On the woodworking link, consumers find items including fiddles, stools, chairs, benches and a selection of wooden animals.

Other businesses currently providing their merchandise on the website are Daisy Fields, Quilts by Delta, Blue Ridge Wood Crafters, Buffalo Creek Weavers, Elkland Hardwerke, River Hill Bee Farm, A Bird in Hand and Omni Farm Highland Cattle.

Johnson stated that there were several reasons individuals could be drawn to the website.

“There are unique handmade crafts from this area and the website changes with the seasons,” she said.

“Melanie Young of New River Community Partners wrote the grants to make the website possible,” Johnson continued. “Blue Ridge Graphics and Goosedown Graphics created the website, Blue Ridge did all the designs & photos.
