County has low rate of teen pregnancyAs the state reports the continuation of a 13-year downward trend in teen pregnancy rates, Alleghany County reported one of the lowest rates in the state in 2003, according to statistics reported by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.Local Democrats regain control of school boardThe local Democratic Party recaptured a majority on the board of education and held its ground on the county commission Tuesday with about 76 percent of Alleghany County’s 6,514 registered voters turning out at the polls.
