In October, 2001, Alleghany in Motion rolled down county roads for the first time to assist those in need of transportation. Since that time, AIM has transported an average of 100 residents a week and maintained an average weekly travel log of between 5,000 and 7,000 miles.
Now, three years later, the service has become a necessary of many local residents’ lives.
Ennice resident Nadean Greene sings the praises of Alleghany in Motion, which has provided transportation to her and husband Raymond for the last year-and-a-half.
“At any given time, I can call the office and talk with (Secretary) Joyce Walker or (Director) April Caudill and they immediately have transportation arranged for Raymond or myself so we can meet our medical appointments,” Greene said.
She noted that the appointments have ranged in destination from Greensboro to Johnson City, Tenn.
“There have been a couple of times that Raymond and I have had appointments at different medical facilities on the same day and have never once been late for an appointment.”
Greene also stated that county residents are “very fortunate and blessed” to have the program.
“Every driver has always shown the utmost safety, consideration,
hospitality and professionalism to us,” she added.
