On tour buses and in private vehicles, hordes of bicyclists poured into Sparta last Saturday to prepare for the kickoff of the statewide Cycle N.C. event.
By Saturday night, a ‘tent city’ had sprung up from the grass of Jarrett Field, but by Sunday morning, it and its occupants had started their journey across the state to Oriental on the coast. Sparta was selected to be the starting point for the event for the first time this year. The Alleghany Chamber of Commerce helped organize the event locally.
