The winds and rains of the remnants of Hurricane Ivan hit Alleghany County Sept. 17, but with much less punch than forecasters had expected. The storm dropped about three inches of rain and brought with it winds in excess of 30 miles per hour. The storm resulted in the closure of six roads, two of which were continued closures from Hurricane Frances, as well as the closure of area schools. However, areas to the west of Alleghany were more seriously affected by the storm.

Road Closures

The three roads that were closed on Sept. 17 and were scheduled to reopen on Sept. 20 were Weaver Road, Finney Road and Old River Lane.
