A story in the Aug. 12 edition of The Alleghany News concerning a recent dedication ceremony for Alleghany Memorial Hospital contained incorrect information.
The article stated that a loan was given by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for $4.6 million to AMH to help pay for expansion of the hospital. However, the loan was actually made by First Charter bank and backed by USDA Rural Development. The funds must be repaid by the hospital and do not constitute a grant. Hospital spokesperson Kelly Murphy said all the funds from the loan, as well as donations for the New Legacy Campaign, were used to finance the new construction and renovation at the hospital.
The USDA also awarded two grants, which do not have to be repaid, to
the Town of Sparta and Alleghany Group Homes Inc.
