Board gets report from principals

With the official beginning of the school year only hours away, members of the Alleghany County Board of Education heard a report from all local principals and other school officials at a meeting on Aug. 4. "We're just excited about the coming year," said Superintendent Duane Davis.

Alleghany High School Principal Judd Starling said he plans to focus on positive aspects as the school year begins.

"These positives include growth and involvement in the community," stated Starling. "I want my staff to enjoy coming to school every day. If they don't, I want them to talk to me about it."

Meanwhile, Glade Creek Principal Gary West mentioned the loss of several faculty members. "We will keep refining," West said. "We plan to have a positive year and do good things for our kids."
