Bob Bamberg was selected last week as the new executive director of the Alleghany County Chamber of Commerce.
Bamberg resigned his position of chamber board president to apply for the position earlier this year.
He was in the chamber office for part of the day on Monday, but said he did not know when he would officially begin his duties.
"(Chamber President) Joe Ward called me over the weekend and informed and congratulated me on being selected," Bamberg said. "This is the third time I'd interviewed for this position and I was pleased, happy and a little bit relieved when I found out I had been chosen."
Bamberg said his experience working with the board should be a plus for him. "I look forward to working with them to move the chamber forward," he said.
The chamber is currently gearing up for a hectic time of year, with the
Mountain Heritage Festival and Cycle N.C. coming up in late September.
