Weekend Events Planned

Several weekend events are planned in the county, including the annual Relay for Life, the New River Shrine Club Car Show and the Quilter's Guild's quilt show.

The car show will be kicked off on Friday, July 23 with a barbecue supper from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The supper will cost $5 per plate. After the supper, car enthusiasts will ride through downtown Sparta from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. in what is being billed as a "cruise-by parade."

The actual car show will begin at 8 a.m. and last until 3 p.m. Admission for that event is $5, but children under 12 get in free. Meanwhile in the Emerson Black Building (also at the fairgrounds), the Alleghany Quilters Guild will host its annual quilt show. That show will begin on Friday at noon and last until 6 p.m., continuing on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Admission to the quilt show is free. The event will include quilts, vendors, little quilt door prizes for children, a raffle for a chance to win a quilt, lapel pins and consignment items for sale. Attendees will also have the opportunity to vote on their choice for the best quilts in the show.
