Kamms to visit July 21 and talk about teapots

Sonny and Gloria Kamm will be in Sparta on Wednesday, July 21 to meet local people and answer questions about their teapot collection and its future permanent home in Sparta.

An open house reception will begin at 10 a.m. at the Sparta United Methodist Church fellowship hall.

"The public is invited. It's open to anybody who is interested in the teapot project," said Jonathan Halsey, project coordinator for a new museum that will house the collection and other arts and crafts. "They really want to meet local people, shake hands and answer questions," he said.

The event is hosted by the Dirty Fingers Garden Club, which is providing refreshments, he added.

Just over a year ago the California couple visited Sparta and decided to give their teapot collection, numbering more than 10,000 and valued in the millions, a permanent home here.

New River Community Partners is leading efforts to build a museum with a target opening date of 2007. The Kamms will establish an endowment to provide for the collection's permanent care.

Anyone who wants more information on the reception or the museum project may call New River Community Partners at 372-8818.
