One of six men who escaped from the Surry County Jail in Dobson last Saturday night was formerly from Alleghany County. The men, who used a fingernail clipper attached to a toothbrush handle to cut through a Sheetrock ceiling, were all still eluding capture as of presstime.
The men escaped sometime between 10 p.m. last Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
The escapees are Rene Jeremias Hernandez, 22, formerly of Sparta;
Matthew W. Shinault, 39, of Mount Airy; Randy Lee, 36, of Alabama; Paul
Vincent Callas, 37, of Ararat; and Timothy James Tate, 24, of Mount
Airy; and Archie Dale Robertson, 36, of Mount Airy.
