After a number of women's pocketbooks and other items were stolen from church parking lots in the Laurel Springs community Sunday, Sheriff Mike Caudill is urging local residents to lock their vehicles.
"They have had a rash of larcenies from vehicles in Ashe County," Caudill said. All of the thefts targeted unlocked vehicles — vehicles with their doors locked were not broken into.
"I strongly recommend when people leave their vehicle unattended that they lock it and make sure no valuable items are left in plain sight," said Caudill.
Anyone who observes suspicious activity in local parking areas of any kind
should call the sheriff's department at 372-4455, Caudill said.
