Parade of mowers — Many of the 74 drivers participating in the spring
mowdown took a lap around the track just before the mowdown began on
Saturday night.

About 1,600 attended the Carquest Spring Mowdown at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds on last Saturday night.
Walt Green, organizer of the event for the Alleghany Mower Racing Association said he was very pleased with the turnout.
"The racing was great and the crowd really enjoyed it," he said. "Everyone seemed to have a good time."
There were 74 mowers participating in 13 classes, he said. "We had representatives from 20 different towns and cities," Green noted. Besides Alleghany County drivers, participants traveled from Jefferson, Mount Airy, Thurmond, Stoneville, Millers Creek, Hays.
