With little fanfare, Alleghany High School's band director turned in her resignation recently, stepping down from the position she had held for about four years.
Tanya Carmichael submitted her resignation on May 8 to Superinten-dent Duane Davis, according to Brenda Sutherland, personnel director for Alleghany Schools. The resignation was accepted by the Alleghany County Board of Education on May 10.
The resignation cited personal reasons, said Sutherland. She said the board attorney advised against sharing a copy of the resignation with the newspaper.
When contacted at her home late last week, Carmichael declined to comment on her resignation.
Principal Barbara Lyons said the search for a permanent replacement is
under way.
