Pam Brady, exceptional children's teacher at Alleghany High School, was named Alleghany County's "Teacher of the Year" last week.
Brady and the Teachers of the Year for the three elementary schools were honored at the May 5 meeting of the Alleghany Board of Education.
Besides Brady, the school teachers of the year are Jill Gambill, Piney Creek School; Kendall Hamm, Sparta School; and Becky Neff, Glade Creek School.
"I was very surprised," Brady said. "To me it was a great honor especially that my colleagues here at the high school chose me to represent them as Teacher of the Year."
Brady has been an exceptional children's teacher for 22 years. She has been in her current position for 14 years.
"She's very dedicated and very caring to her students," said AHS Principal Barbara Lyon. Exceptional children's teachers have a lot of paperwork added to the regular duties of teaching, she noted.
"I will miss Mrs. Lyon," Brady said. "She has always supported me in my decisions and provided anything she could within her power."
The other teachers are also supportive, she continued. "They work hard to
help me give these kids a good education, to the best of the students'
abilities."
