Organizers planning hillclimb

Planning is already well underway for the second-annual Blue Ridge Sports Car Hillclimb, which is slated for May 15 through May 16. The event is sponsored by the Central Carolina's Region of the Sports Car Club of America.

The hillclimb was first held here last year and features individual time trials of sports cars charging up Doughton Mountain Road. The road is located just off N.C. 18, south of Sparta, and is closed to traffic for the event.

The race, which will feature about 100 race cars in numerous classes, begins at 8 a.m. and ends at around 5 p.m. both days.
