Male Revue plays to packed house

The second-annual All-Male Revue played to a nearly-packed house at the Sparta Elementary School Auditorium Saturday night.

So far, more that $3,000 has been raised for local children through admission prices alone.

"That does not count money raised through concessions by the Cub Scout Pack No. 251 and the Beta Club, nor the sale of the videos, which will be available within three weeks," said organizer Dottie Dorsett. The crowd was estimated at more than 900 people.

The event raises money for the "Kids First Network," which in turn donates money that is used for charitable purposes involving children at all Alleghany County schools.

A total of 11 men participated in the All-Male Revue this year and about 30 more local residents took part. Outside performers also helped, including the Alleghany High School cheerleaders, who helped start the show, and young dancers from the Dance Place, who performed "Dance Like an Egyptian."

"I've been asking people for comments and everybody said everything was great," said Kenneth Brinegar, one of the organizers and a performer in the show.
