The second-annual ‘Male Revue' is planned for this Saturday, March 20, at the Sparta Elementary School auditorium.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. and seating is being sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Coordinator Dottie Dorsett said at least 10 ‘beauties' will be in the contest, which is a fundraiser for local schools. The group putting on the show now has a name, "The Kids First Network."

"A lot of these men go through a lot of trouble," Dorsett said. "I think it's going to be the best show we've ever had."

Despite this only being the second show, some members of the group have performed at other fundraising events.

The theme of the event is "The Show Must Go On," a circus-type theme, Dorsett said.

Featured performers will include impersonations of Ray Stevens, Tarzan and Jane, Gant Sigmon as the bearded lady and several circus-themed performances, including having clowns in the crowd.

"The Dance Place will have some of their girls in it dancing," said Kenneth Brinegar, another organizer of the event. Both Brinegar and Dorsett are employed by Lowes Foods No. 2 in Sparta.

Other notable impersonations include Elton John, Elvis Presley and the Village People.

"I think the house will be packed," Brinegar said.

Tickets for the event, only available at the door the night of the show, will be $5 for adults, $2 for children two to 12 and free for children two and under.

Cub Scout Pack No. 251 will be offering drinks and hotdogs with all the trimmings. The Beta Club will be selling hot drinks, special coffees and desserts.

The Alleghany Ministerium will also be on hand, taking up donations for its charitable efforts in the community.

Brinegar, a performer in the event as well, said he recommends that those attending come early to be seated to avoid a last minute jam at the doors.

"We've decided to take up tickets at the entrances, instead of at the door to the auditorium this year," he said. The auditorium will seat about 924 people.
