Meeting behind closed doors for most of the meeting, the Alleghany County Board of Education came out of closed session briefly to approve a small slate of personnel recommendations. The action occurred during a special called meeting Friday at the board's conference room at 85 Peachtree Street in Sparta.
Superintendent Duane Davis said the board also discussed private personnel matters with the board attorney during the closed session, but declined to elaborate further.
Some personnel matters are confidential and are not subject to open meetings laws in North Carolina.
Davis said the discussions may lead to future open session action by
the board, but did not say what actions would be taken.
Approved personnel items included hiring William "Sid" Carrier for the
schools maintenance department, re-hiring Paula Tayson as school nurse
and accepting volunteer Van Holcomb for ladies' softball at Alleghany
High School.
