County places vote on CEDS on hold

The absence of Alleghany County Commissioners Sandy Carter and Graylen Blevins led to the county's Board of Commissioners' to opt against taking a vote on county- and regional-level plans for economic development at a Feb. 2 commissioners' meeting.

Inmate dies of hanging in jail cell

An inmate in the Wilkes Sheriff's Department's Women's Detention Center in North Wilkesboro who once resided in Alleghany County took her own life by hanging Sunday night after being put in solitary confinement earlier that day, said authorities.
