State health officials are heralding a decline in influenza infections statewide, but are still urging precautions against the virus. One of the best precautions is getting a vaccination, but the vaccine has been in short supply this year.
The Alleghany County Health Department currently has a limited number of doses of influenza vaccine for all major high risk groups, according to Nursing Supervisor Eva Wooten.
One supply of vaccine is being reserved for infants from six months to
23 months of age. Vaccinations are free for those children who have not
been vaccinated this year. Also included in that reserve are children
two to three years old with chronic health conditions, such as asthma.
