Town plans annual tree pick up

Sparta Town Manager Tom Douglas announced this week that the town will have its annual Christmas tree pick up once again this year.

Douglas said that pick up will begin around 9 a.m. on Jan. 2, 2004. Local residents are advised to place their Christmas trees by the nearest curbside — the same place they usually place their household garbage. The town maintenance crew will be doing the pick up, not the usual garbage service, which is run by Roger Brady.

The town will be using a dump truck in lieu of a standard garbage truck; therefore, no household garbage or other trash items will be accepted.

"People generally know this and they expect it every year," said Douglas. "We try to do it within a few days after New Years."

Douglas estimated that pick up for the town should take three to four hours.
