The Alleghany County Board of Education officially adopted its 2003-2004 school system budget at its regularly scheduled meeting Oct. 1 at Glade Creek School.

The board agreed to hold meetings as schools at the bequest of board member Sonia Joines, who suggested the board hold meetings at each of the county's schools. The board typically meets at the Central Office Building in Sparta.

The school system here had been operating on a temporary budget since June. The final budget couldn't be made official until figures were made available from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction.
