Members of the Sparta Revitalization Committee seemed receptive last week to the proposal to bring an extensive teapot collection to Sparta. Some members related it to the committee's decision to review and update the six-year-old Main Street improvement plan.
Patrick Woodie made the case for the teapot acquisition effort during the Sept. 8 SRC meeting. Woodie sought to de-emphasize the "teapot museum" concept, saying that is not the end goal. "I see this as a catalyst for the larger redevelopment picture of downtown," he said.
Earlier in the meeting, the SRC decided to take a look at that overall
picture; the committee voted to begin planning a retreat to examine and
possibly revamp the Main Street improvement strategy.
